About Opening Bell Algo

A one-person project: I build, test and support one expert advisor for Nasdaq-100 futures, and I publish how it performs, including when it loses.

Who I am

My name is Silviu Bere. I am an independent developer of trading programs for MetaTrader 5. I trade MNQ futures with automated programs on my own account, and Opening Bell Nasdaq MT5 grew out of that work. I sell it on the MQL5 Market, where my seller name is public like that of every seller, through my company SBP PROGRAMĂRI S.R.L. in Romania.

I do not manage money, take deposits, sell trading signals by subscription or give personal trading advice.

How the program was built

  • Many versions, each compared with the last. Every change was tested on the same 11 quarterly MNQ contracts with real ticks and compared trade by trade with the previous version. A new idea was kept only if it improved the result in every year tested, not just the total.
  • Most ideas were rejected. Among them: a day-of-week filter, a filter for choppy markets, and a filter based on the relationship between Nasdaq and S&P 500 futures. They looked good in one year and failed in another, which usually means they fit the past rather than the market.
  • Costs from real statements. The commission and fees used in the backtest ($1.95 per round turn, rounded up to $2.00) come from my own account statements over several months, not from a broker's price list.
  • Criteria before results. For the NAS100 CFD profile, the pass criteria were written down before the first test, so they cannot be adjusted to fit the result.
  • A separate edition for buyers. The version on the MQL5 Market checks margin, manages only its own positions, works on netting and hedging accounts and reads New York time on any broker's clock. It was verified trade by trade against the research version before release.

What I publish, and what I keep private

I publish the behavior of the program, the full backtest with costs and losses, the forward test trade by trade, and every version in the changelog. I keep the exact entry rules private, because they are the product.
